The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asunafo South, Hon. Benjamin Yinkah, has distributed fertilizer to farmers across the district under the Government of Ghana’s flagship Feed Ghana Programme, reaffirming the Assembly’s commitment to improving agricultural productivity and ensuring food security.
The fertilizer distribution forms part of the government’s broader efforts to provide farmers with timely access to essential agricultural inputs to increase crop yields and reduce the cost of production. The intervention is expected to support farmers during the current farming season and contribute to increased food production within the district and beyond. The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has identified timely access to fertilizer, improved seeds, mechanization, and extension services as key pillars of the programme.
Addressing the beneficiary farmers, Hon. Benjamin Yinkah encouraged them to make good use of the fertilizer by applying it appropriately to maximize yields. He reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to supporting agriculture, noting that farming remains the backbone of the local economy and a major source of employment and livelihoods for residents of Asunafo South.
The Feed Ghana Programme is a four-year national agricultural transformation initiative launched by the Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. The programme seeks to boost food production, improve farmer incomes, reduce Ghana’s dependence on food imports, create employment opportunities, and strengthen the country’s food security. It focuses on providing improved seeds, fertilizers, mechanization services, irrigation support, extension services, market access, and modern farming technologies to farmers nationwide.
Beyond the distribution of fertilizer, the Feed Ghana Programme also supports the establishment of Farmer Service Centres across the country to provide mechanization, agricultural inputs, extension services, financial services, and climate-smart agricultural solutions. These interventions are designed to modernize agriculture and make farming more profitable and attractive, particularly for young people.
The fertilizer distribution in Asunafo South reflects the assembly’s commitment to partnering with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to ensure that government agricultural interventions reach farmers at the grassroots. By equipping farmers with the necessary inputs at the right time, the initiative is expected to increase productivity, improve household incomes, and contribute significantly to the district’s socio-economic development.
