The Office of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) has organized a two-day training and sensitization workshop for Honourable Assembly Members of the Asunafo South District Assembly, held on 15th and 16th July, 2026 at the Assembly Hall. The programme was aimed at deepening Assembly members’ understanding of their roles and responsibilities within the local governance structure.
The training forms part of the Local Government Service’s broader mandate to develop and coordinate training implementation plans for District Assemblies in consultation with the respective Assemblies, ensuring that elected representatives are well-equipped to serve their electoral areas effectively. Officers from OHLGS took Assembly members through their executive, deliberative, legislative, representative and oversight functions, while also examining practical approaches to community engagement and effective participation in Assembly proceedings.
Participants were encouraged to actively engage with issues affecting their electoral areas and bring these before the General Assembly for deliberation, while also strengthening their capacity to organize community-level meetings to report back on Assembly decisions and their implications for constituents. The training further touched on proper meeting procedures, including how to raise motions and contribute constructively to Assembly debates.
The Asunafo South District Chief Executive, Hon. Benjamin Yinkah, commended the OHLGS for the initiative and encouraged Assembly members to apply the knowledge and skills acquired towards effective service delivery and the overall development of the district. Assembly members, on their part, expressed appreciation for the training and pledged their commitment to discharging their duties diligently.
