The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Asunafo South District Office, in partnership with the German development agency GIZ, the European Union, and the Government of Ghana, yesterday held a sensitization programme on the theme: “Strengthening the Rule of Law and the Fight Against Corruption in Ghana.”
The programme, held at Asunafo South District Assembly, formed part of ongoing efforts under the project to deepen public understanding of the rule of law, promote transparency, and mobilize citizen action against corrupt practices at the local level.
Resource persons took participants through the meaning and importance of the rule of law, the dangers corruption poses to national development, and the role ordinary citizens, traditional authorities, and local government institutions must play in promoting accountability and good governance within their communities.
The event was co-funded by the European Union and the Federal Republic of Germany, and implemented in cooperation with the Ministry responsible for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and other key state institutions, reflecting the broad-based, multi-stakeholder approach being adopted to tackle corruption across Ghana.
Participants, drawn from various groups within the district, were encouraged to serve as ambassadors of the rule of law and anti-corruption principles within their respective communities, and to report corrupt practices through the appropriate channels.
Officials of NCCE used the platform to reaffirm the Commission’s commitment to continuous civic education and engagement across the district, while GIZ representatives commended Asunafo South District Assembly for its cooperation and support in hosting the programme.
The Assembly has expressed appreciation to NCCE, GIZ, the European Union, and all partner institutions for the initiative, and has pledged its continued support toward similar programmes aimed at promoting good governance, transparency, and accountability within Asunafo South District.
