The Asunafo South District Assembly on 24th August, 2026 hosted a team of consultants as part of a nationwide exercise to gather data for the development of Ghana’s next Intergovernmental Fiscal Framework (IGFF), covering the period 2026–2030.
The visit formed part of a broader data collection exercise running from 25th August to 29th September, 2026, targeting selected Regional Co-ordinating Councils (RCCs) and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across the country. The exercise is aimed at replacing the expired 2020–2024 IGFF with an updated framework that reflects current fiscal and governance realities.
About the New IGFF
The new Intergovernmental Fiscal Framework will serve as the strategic policy and implementation blueprint for strengthening fiscal decentralization in Ghana. Its core objectives include:
Improving intergovernmental fiscal relations between central government and local authorities
Enhancing the financial autonomy of MMDAs
Boosting the overall fiscal performance of local government institutions

The exercise was carried out with technical support from the European Union (EU), the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), and GIZ, working in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance (MoF) under the Participation, Accountability, and Integrity for a Resilient Democracy (PAIReD) Programme.
