The Asunafo South District Assembly is undertaking a significant infrastructure upgrade at the Kukuom Government Hospital, aimed at strengthening the facility’s capacity to handle emergency medical cases and improving overall service delivery for residents of Kukuom and neighbouring communities.
Construction is currently underway on a 1-unit Emergency Ward, an elevated concrete polytank stand, and the provision of a 350-litre polytank — a combined package of works designed to enhance the hospital’s readiness to respond to urgent and life-threatening medical situations.
The new emergency ward will provide a dedicated space for the hospital to receive, stabilize, and treat patients requiring urgent medical attention, including accident victims, complicated deliveries, and other critical cases. Prior to this facility, patients requiring emergency care often had to be managed within general wards not specifically designed for urgent interventions, or referred to facilities further afield — a delay that can prove costly in emergency situations.
To support consistent hospital operations, the project also includes an elevated concrete polytank stand fitted with a 350-litre polytank. This addition will ensure a steady water supply for critical hospital functions such as surgery preparation, sanitation, and general clinical use, reducing the risk of water-related disruptions to emergency and routine care.
The project is being financed through the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), reflecting the Assembly’s continued commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across Asunafo South District.
Once completed, the emergency ward at Kukuom Government Hospital is expected to significantly reduce response times for critical cases, improve patient outcomes, and reinforce the hospital’s role as a key referral point for emergency care within the district.
