Kukuom, Ahafo Region — The Asunafo South District Assembly has officially deployed its first cohort of Blue Water Guards following a rigorous three-month training program aimed at combating illegal mining (galamsey) and protecting local water bodies.

The Mission
The Blue Water Guards will serve as frontline personnel responsible for surveillance and protection of the district’s rivers and water bodies. Their work will help safeguard drinking water sources and protect cocoa farmlands that depend heavily on clean water.
The Training
The guards underwent an intensive three-month training program covering tactical operations, swimming skills, environmental protection strategies, and community engagement. The program was conducted in collaboration with national environmental and security agencies.
Leadership Directive
The District Chief Executive for Asunafo South, Hon. Benjamin Yinkah, reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to protecting the environment, declaring a zero-tolerance policy against environmental destruction. He urged the officers to carry out their duties with integrity, professionalism, and dedication.
Operational Framework
Working under the coordination of the District Coordinating Director (DCD), the Blue Water Guards will conduct daily patrols along riverbanks and waterways, monitor suspicious activities, report illegal mining operations, and engage local communities on sustainable environmental practices.
