The Asunafo South District Assembly like other Districts in the Ahafo Region celebrated this year’s farmer’s day with a grand durbar as more than 200 farmers exhibited some of their farm produce for the year. The celebration which was the 38th farmer’s day celebration was held on 2nd December, 2022 at Onwe D/A school park on the theme “Accelerating Agricultural Development through Value Addition”.
The District Chief Executive Hon. Frank Aduse Poku in his speech thanked all the farmers for continuously producing food for the District and urged them to continue the good work they are doing. He reiterated government’s commitment of bringing out policies that will make farming one of the lucrative jobs to do.
Hon. Frank Aduse Poku said, government policies such as Fertilizer Subsidy, Planting for Food and Jobs, etc., are all to support farmers improve their yields and to help improve their living conditions.
The District Director of Agriculture, Mr. Senti Michael reaffirmed his department’s readiness to collaborate with all stakeholders in the Agricultural sector for a fruitful outcome. He also assured the farmers that his outfit will continue to support them in improving their yields.
Farmers who distinguished themselves in the course of the year in their farming activities were presented with awards which ranked from Tricycle to Knapsack sprayer to and Cutlass among others. In all, nineteen (19) farmers were awarded with Mrs. Doris Pokuaa from Amankwaakrom taking the 1st Prize.
The colorful ceremony saw in attendance, Chiefs and elders of Onwe, the Kontihene of Sankore Traditional Authority, DCE Hon. Frank Aduse Poku, the District Coordinating Director, Sankore Police command, Heads of Department, Members of Staff of the Assembly, Assembly Members, Political Party members, Educationalist, the Clergy, Media and others.
